Hamble

The river Hamble is at the heart of the sheltered waters of the Solent, protected from open sea by the Isle of Wight. It is the ideal base for cruising and racing in the Solent. The river Hamble and its surrounding villages are not simply a mecca for yachting/boating; it also offers some excellent fishing, outstanding bird watching and the opportunity to walk the 'Solent Way' a well known ramblers' track. It is also well placed as a base for visiting the rest of the Hampshire countryside, including the New Forest, Portsmouth and Southampton.

The Hamble river area is also a fishing port and is home to numerous vessels which mainly fish for shellfish, including oysters, mussels, cuttlefish, whelks and cockles.

Anyone visiting the area cannot help but be struck by its varied history, from its earliest days as a centre for fishing and boatbuilding, to its pivotal role in the D-Day landings.
