Cowes

The Isle of Wight is for those in the know, one of the UK's undiscovered gems. Unspoilt and incredibly beautiful, it is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing break, at any time of year. This stunning island boasts unrivalled scenery and a wealth of fascinating attractions. For the energetic, there are plenty of sports facilities, including windsurfing, sailing and paragliding. And for those who prefer to unwind and explore, there's so much to discover.

The Isle of Wight is one of the best known sailing venues in the world. Separating the Isle of Wight and mainland England is the Solent - an area of varied coastline and fierce tidal streams - the proving ground for many world-beating sailors and home for cruising yachtsmen and women.

Cowes and Gunard beach

Gurnard is a small pleasant resort to the west of Cowes. The gently shelving beach consists of sand and shingle and is ideal for family bathing with gentle water sports such as dinghy sailing and windsurfing. During the summer season Gurnard beach is litter picked on a daily basis and large amounts of seaweed are removed and taken to local farmers for use as compost. Emergency equipment such as Lifebelts are strategically located along the Esplanade in order to ensure safety at any time of the year. Gurnard is well served with a café and pub that serves delightful food and plenty of refreshments. Since 1999 Gurnard has not only been able to fly the Seaside Award Flag but has also been successful in achieving a Water Quality award.

Don't forget, Gurnard has its natural hazards so be sure to read the safety guidelines and have a good time.
